Speaker Size
It is a common misconception that larger woofers will invariably guarantee louder bass and deeper extension. In practice, however, your woofer's efficiency--and bandwidth thereof--is still bound by the factors described in the Three Variables; One Constant entry. Typically, the larger the woofer, the higher it's equivalent air compliance which, in turn, imposes higher demand on the volume of space required for the woofer to operate. If there isn't sufficient room to address such demand, both the efficiency and bandwidth will suffer.

In planning a system, try to guide your woofer choice by matching it to the available volume of space. If your choice is based simply on the largest diameter to fit along the designated mounting area, choose again.
