With a little bit of work and PWKs background of doing high-profile celebrity vehicle sub-system designs, we have now all but signed DUB Magazine on the dotted line. Andy, who builds all of DUB's vehicles in-house wants to use PWK on every build possible (which means every car where the sponsoring company doesn't have the say-so to screw everything up by throwing a bunch of MDF rings in the trunk and resining fleece to every square inch.) This time SONY stepped up to the plate to show everyone what I've been saying for years.....their product is no laughing matter, just their choice of major retailer is! Everyone knows that if you were to sell McIntosh at Wal-Mart, everyone would consider it junk by proxy.

SONY wants two XS-GS120PD subs in the back of one of two of Snoop Dogg's old school Caddies. The '63 is getting the goods and it won't be a joke. The SONY 12s have a respectable set of parameters that allowed for a pretty respectable response curve, given the less than desirable circumstances within which they must perform. You may notice that SONY does not post their parameters on their site or in the product manuals. Engineers readily handed them over when they knew PWK was doing the job.

This old school is receiving a series tuned 6th order bandpass to achieve the Snoop-required 30-55Hz bandwidth, with "punch" and "life." SONY will now, intentionally have a great example of just how potent their product is, on only 1100w worth of power. If you guys are near a city where the DUB car show series comes through, you should make the effort to go and experience SONY's effort to stagger folks. They have many more cars to produce for many more celebrities and PWK is commissioned to be behind the ruckus. Once the magazine has hit the stands or the online story has gone live (whichever is first,) we will post a transparent-view pic of the box design for your enjoyment.

PS......SONY sponsors my friend Scott Owens as a pro fisherman......yep, the PIONEER-famous SPL world champ.....we'll see if some collaboration may come of that. In the mean time, you may want to be the first of your band of friends to skip on the next opprtunity to pick at SONY; it'll be a wise choice!

Yes sir. My CPU is still hot from modeling that Cadi. And the system WILL average >95dB/1W efficiency at the head rest, for shizzle.

Another article for peteybox.

Sensible idea to have the car audios foremost audio engineer to design sub enclosures! If its good enough for Hybrid Audio to outsource ...

Ah yes, the web's most complete 3rd party aggregated resource of all things PWK. I may one day have to link to it from PWKDesigns.com.

That is soooo coool SS and PWK!!!
Are you guys making the box?? Or will it be a Plexi Fo-Sho deal?
It would be nice to have the PWK logo engraved in some part of the enclosure!
Good things!!!

So, is the Caddy a convertible? You know how snoop rolls 8-)

As far as I understand, Andy will be the one doing the complete install. You'll just have to keep tabs on this to find out more as we make the information available.

I think haters = dumb and closed minded

Truth be told, Car Audio is like any other technology area, it's populated by manufacturers that (most of them) make flashy products that consumers like (more than understand)... Only a few of us dare to explore the dark side (the real, technical, logical side of this business)... So, at the end of the day I feel better understanding what I'm doing and not just follow a bunch of rules of thumb and generalities or certain brands just because they are the coolest new thing..

Hell if Sony makes cool badass subs why not explore the parameters right? Now that I think of it I've never bought a Sony sub but the ones I've made boxes for are not half bad 8-)

See, I look at haters as people who either had a bad experience with a product or they are following what others are saying/have said. I have seen DD, Sundown, JL, Fosgate, Pioneer, Funkypup :D etc hater's.

It's like any ism or otry. Education generally helps eliminate it. Also exposure to something diffrent. Finding out that the hated object in question actually performs better can also add fuel to the fire.

Look at the PWK brand. Lots of people hating because of the various web forum posts. Which can usually boil down to a couple of reasons. Incorrect building, incorrect specs/parameters given, wrong woofer/vehicle for the enclosure (and for the record, I have tried multiple PWK designs with different woofers in different cars and have NOT had a bad experience), AND the most important/probable, unrealistic goals.

Why are people hating a set of Blueprints. Pete offers a modeled enclosure for a woofer/vehicle combination that come closest to the what the person has SAID they want. He offers no magic. No voodoo. It's not like his web page promises something that is impossible. But people will get it into their heads that it is implied. Hell why else would there be a market for High end cabling. Why would people spent big dollars on USB or digital cables? AGED cables etc... Because they want to believe it works. Same goes for hating.

Can't say I have ever been impressed by the sony amplifier, subwoofer, or speaker line.

Certainly just about any driver can be made to perform in the correct circumstance, like this one. But day to day, in "typical" applications the subwoofers sound a bit synthetic, and at a glance it looks very much like cosmetics were more important in the design process than what someone like myself would want out of a subwoofer system, accurate powerful sound.

I'm not hating, I actually carry the Sony line, but only the source (non explode) units.

I guess I have been a fan of the American built power houses for too long to even look back.

I have not investigated the drivers being used in this particular build, and if anyone can make them perform, it's definitely Pete. I'm overly confident that the results will be great.

Agree, to me they sounded like the sound came from a mic in a can... Also some low end sony units...

These are not massive builds and I have received build pics; many weeks ago actually. We can't show any until Snoop has received the cars.....at the earliest. We need to know which pics will be used by DUB online and DUB publications before we can flash other pics for all the forums that might cover it. PWKs forum will be first. Any linking folks want to do, to raise awareness for PWKs services and involvement in this and other such projects.....please do when all the pics are up.

I can say, Andy did a great job of building the enclosure. When I hear of Snoop's reaction.....you guys will know. I'm positive that he's heard much louder cars.....but few will have been this impressive with a pair of 12s in the trunk....but I am not sure how familiar he is with the reputation many car audio brands have. So he may not understand how impressed he "should be" because of the mediocre reputation SONY subs have received over the years. They certainly spec out to be good subwoofers and Pete of course guaranteed they will perform.
