Engineering Philosophy:

The unique geometry of your vehicle cabin–as well as that of your listening room–has a profound impact on the behavior of sound waves.  Just like the geometry of your speaker enclosure, the various room / cabin resonances, compression points, and standing wave modes impose a unique acoustic impedance profile; a profile that your enclosure has to match for optimal performance.  A good way to think of it is that you’re sitting inside of the outermost chamber of a large bandpass enclosure; yet the individual chambers, whether large or small,  still rely on one another for a proper alignment.

If there’s one conclusion that should be drawn from all this–especially as it pertains to manufacturer recommended and mass-produced pre-fabricated designs–it is that an enclosure will sound ten different ways in ten different cars or rooms.  Thus, there is virtually no guarantee that such an implement will perform exactly the way you need it to within your particular listening environment.

The cornerstone function of an enclosure is to impedance-match the speaker’s electro-mechanical properties to the air mass between the source and the target listening point–and to do so along a specific bandwidth.  For this to happen, your room / cabin geometry is as crucial in the design process as your speaker’s T/S parameters–though most casual designers tend to neglect this entirely.  What’s more, within most of the manufacturing and sales venues, the mass-production of a generic product is simply too cost-effective to address individual listeners’ unique performance needs.

In that sense, think of PWK Designs as a supplier of alternative technology the likes of which is simply not available for any enterprise engaged on a mass production scale by the very virtue of it’s operation.
